2. From your Associate Minister of Religious Education

We’ll be wrapping up the regular Sunday school classes on March 16, and moving in to the spring projects beginning Sunday, March 23.

For grades K-6, we’ll start the Peace Experiments program on Sunday, March 23. The philosophy behind Peace Experiments is simple: “We do not want children to belabor the horrors of war…. What we want to do, to use military terminology, was to arm the children with an inherent sense that peace is possible, that it is exciting and flows outward from our daily habits into the wider world around us.”

We did Peace Experiments in 2012, and you can see the Peace Quilt that we made then displayed in Room 10. In fact, we got press coverage for Peace Experiments — Geez Magazine, “Holy Mischief in an Age of Fast Faith,” reported positively on our program in their Fall, 2013 issue. You can see more about Peace Experiments here on our Web site.

Plans for preschoolers and Peace Experiments are still in the works. I’ll be sending out more information to preschool parents soon.

The Purple class, gr. 7-8, has fallen a bit behind in their planned visits to other faith communities. We are planning to extend the regular Purple class program through mid-April, to allow for another visit.

Many parents explicitly ask for programs that teach their kids to become sensitive and moral people, and our Peace Experiments program is one of our best methods for helping make this happen. I hope your family will be able to participate regularly in Peace Experiments.

See you soon,
Rev. Dan Harper
