2. From your Associate Minister of Religious Education

By now, you should have received a mid-year evaluation form from Beth Nord, a member of the Children and Youth Religious Education (CYRE) Committee. A few of the evaluations are starting to come in, and already we’ve gotten some good ideas to pursue, such as reinstating the parent orientation sessions at the beginning of the school year, and figuring out some way for parents to know what their children have been doing in class on any given week.

The CYRE Committee will be reviewing evaluation forms at its next meeting on Tuesday, February 4. Please search through your email inbox, find your mid-year evaluation, and fill it out so we can have your thoughts. Even if you think everything is just fine, we need to know that, too. And if you’ve lost your evaluation form, email Beth at for a new copy.

See you soon,
Rev. Dan Harper

3. Media resources for parents

One of our OWL teachers, Amy Choate, works as a therapist with children and adolescents. She recommends the following resources for parents who are trying to get a handle on the complicated issues of social media use by children and teens, cyberbullying, and related issues:

4. Another change in Hong Bui’s schedule

Our Religious Education Assistant, Hong Bui, has a new job working Monday through Friday. So she will return to working every Sunday morning with us.

However, we have taken this as an opportunity to make a couple of changes. Hong will now work at the Information Table on the patio before services, instead of setting up a separate Religious Education table. And attendance books for Sunday school classes will continue to be stored in classrooms.

5. Baby Journey changes

Baby Journey is meeting this coming Sunday, Feb. 2, from 10:45 to 11:45 am (NEW TIME) in Room 6 (NEW ROOM). Room 6 is right off the open patio area. It is NOT over near the baby/toddler care room. Grab some coffee and come on in to talk about our baby-rearing journeys.

Please forward this to anyone else with a child under the age of 3, or anyone else who wants to talk about babies!

6. Intergenerational service on Feb. 2

On Sunday, February 2, instead of Sunday school all children will attend the services in the Main Hall (except Purple class, who will be going on a field trip). This new intergenerational service will focus on what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist. We added this service in February to help even out the year now that we are starting Sunday school a month earlier than we used to.
